How to Respond When Your Car Skids

Losing control of your car in severe weather is frightening. First and foremost, it is important to stay calm to keep your mind clear. Here’s a refresher of how to respond in a scary situation.

Simple Steps to Respond to Skidding

Here’s how to steer out of a skid:

1. Take your foot off the accelerator.
2. Do NOT apply the brakes.
3. Steer your car in the direction of the skid. If the rear of your vehicle is sliding to the right, then turn the steering wheel to the right, if left – steer left, gently. Do no steer hard or try to over-correct, nor throw on your brakes. This can cause your car to lose complete control and flip.

Remember, it is important to remain calm and handle your car gently in such situations. Stay safe! Feel free to share this information with your friends and family to help them stay safe too.
