Don't Text and Drive

Distracted driving is sweeping through our community.  In fact nationwide, statistics show that there are now more accidents related to texting while driving vs. driving under the influence.  Did you know that:

  • Distraction from cell phone use while driving (hand held or hands free) extends a driver's reaction as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08 percent. 
  • The No.1 source of driver inattention is use of a wireless device. 
  • Drivers that use cell phones are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves.
  • Driving while distracted is a factor in 25 percent of police reported crashes.
  • Driving while using a cell phone reduces the amount of brain activity associated with driving by 37 percent

    Summer Car Safety

    During hot summer months, the temperature inside your car can be 40 to 60 degrees higher than outside. Never leave children or pets in a closed car. It doesn't take long for heat stroke to set in, or worse. Nationwide, 15 such deaths have already occurred in 2011. Leaving children and pets inside a closed car, or even one with the windows rolled down, is dangerous, deadly, and illegal. Please practice summer car safety.  Be smart, be alert so no one gets hurt.
